Introduction to Valuation Report Writing and Presentation
Presented by William Thomsen
Valuation reports sit at the centre of professional practice. They carry the outcome of analysis into real use, where they are read, relied upon, and interpreted by others. The way a report is written directly shapes how that work is understood. Even a technically sound valuation can lose its strength when the report lacks structure, clarity, or precision.
This virtual masterclass is designed for valuation professionals who want to strengthen how their work is presented and understood in practice. It focuses on the drafting and presentation of valuation reports, with a clear emphasis on usability, clarity, and professional judgement. The session takes a practical approach, working through what makes reports effective, how they are interpreted by different stakeholders, and how to avoid the weaknesses that reduce their impact.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how to structure valuation reports, how to communicate conclusions in a way that is both rigorous and accessible, and how to apply simple quality-control principles to improve consistency and reliability. The session also addresses how reports are read in practice and how this should influence drafting choices.
What you will learn:
What makes a valuation report effective in practice
Common report weaknesses and how to avoid them
How different stakeholders use and interpret valuation reports
Balancing technical rigour with clarity and usability
Practical drafting and quality-control takeaways
This session provides a clear and practical foundation for improving the quality, structure, and effectiveness of valuation reports in professional practice.
About the Presenter

William Thomsen is Director of Valuation at accounting and financial consulting firm Grobstein Teeple LLP. He works with attorneys, CPAs, and advisors on complex business valuation and economic damages engagements where professional judgement is central and the stakes are high. His work most often arises in situations involving ownership changes, contested matters, and cross-border contexts between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
He is typically engaged where ownership interests are changing due to retirement, succession, disability, or partner separation, where buyouts or internal transactions require a credible and defensible valuation, or where an independent view of value is needed to support negotiation, planning, or decision-making. His work also supports advisors who require objectivity due to independence considerations and in cases where reported financials do not fully reflect the underlying position.
William is a CFA charterholder and an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), and holds an MBA in Finance. His approach places strong emphasis on clear scoping, sound professional judgement, and valuation conclusions that can be relied upon by advisors and decision-makers. He works closely with clients and advisory teams across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, structuring engagements in clearly defined phases to provide transparency and cost clarity as matters develop.
