AI, IP, and Competitive Risk: What Valuers Need to Reconsider in 2026

CPD Series BVAcademy Masterclass (3 CPD Available)

AI is now a central component of enterprise value. It functions simultaneously as an intellectual property asset and as a disruptive force that alters business models, competitive positioning, and valuation practice. For valuers, the ability to assess AI’s dual role is becoming essential in engagements involving enterprise value, equity value, and intangible assets.

This masterclass examines how proprietary AI contributes to value creation, how disruption reshapes competitive dynamics, and how traditional valuation methodologies must adapt when AI influences revenue, risk, and return expectations.

Key areas of discussion include:

• AI as both an IP asset and a source of competitive disruption

• How proprietary AI contributes to enterprise and equity value through revenue generation, positioning, and competitive advantage

• How disruption accelerates obsolescence and reshapes value drivers across industries

• Implications for enterprise and equity value, including capital structure, cost of capital, and expected returns

• Adjustments to valuation methodologies, including DCF, market approaches, and real options when AI materially affects the business model

This session is designed for valuers, accountants, and advisory professionals who engage with fast-evolving asset classes and require a forward-looking analytical framework.

Who should attend?

Professionals involved in valuation, financial reporting, tax, corporate finance, and transaction advisory. The session will also benefit practitioners working with intangible assets, IP-heavy businesses, early-stage technology companies, and organisations assessing competitive strategy in AI-driven markets.
