8th BVIUK Virtual Expert Summit
Valuation at the Crossroads: Judgement, Risk and Change
29 October 2026 | 6:00–8:00 pm UK time | Online
For the first time, BVIUK is opening its Virtual Expert Summit free of charge to the wider valuation community.
The 8th BVIUK Virtual Expert Summit brings together BVIUK Expert Members to examine four questions confronting valuation professionals today, from the growing role of artificial intelligence and intangible assets to valuation under economic uncertainty and the challenges of reaching defensible conclusions in litigation.
Unlike a traditional webinar, the Expert Summit is built around discussion. Each session begins with a short introduction from a BVIUK Expert Member before opening to the wider expert group, allowing different professional perspectives, jurisdictions and areas of practice to meet in a live exchange of views.
This year’s theme, Valuation at the Crossroads: Judgement, Risk and Change, reflects a profession operating in an environment where technology, markets and increasingly complex sources of value are placing greater demands on professional judgement.
Discussion Programme
Intangible Assets: Are We Valuing What Matters Most?
Moderated by Graham Antrobus
As intangible assets increasingly drive enterprise value, do conventional valuation approaches adequately capture them, or are important sources of value still being systematically missed?
When Stable Markets Stop Being Stable: How Should Valuation Practice Respond?
Moderated by Carlos Bernardo Gonçalves, MRICS RV
What happens to established valuation assumptions when inflation, interest rates, economic volatility and wider uncertainty challenge conditions traditionally associated with mature markets? Drawing on experience across different market environments, the discussion will consider how valuation methodology and professional judgement should respond when stability can no longer be taken for granted.
Valuation in Litigation: Is There Ever One “Right” Value?
Moderated by John Levitske
When highly qualified experts reach materially different conclusions from the same evidence, does this expose weaknesses in valuation methodology, or is disagreement an unavoidable consequence of professional judgement?
AI and the Valuer: Which Judgements Should Never Be Delegated?
Moderated by Jim Alerding and Chris Mercer
As AI becomes capable of increasingly sophisticated valuation analysis, where should the profession draw the boundary between technology-assisted valuation and decisions that must remain the responsibility of the human valuer?
An Open Expert Summit
BVIUK Expert Summits have traditionally been part of BVIUK’s professional programme, bringing together experienced practitioners for direct discussion of important questions affecting valuation practice.
For this 8th Summit, BVIUK is opening attendance to the wider professional community free of charge.
The open-access format provides an opportunity for valuers, advisers, accountants, finance professionals, academics and others with an interest in business valuation to hear directly from BVIUK Expert Members and engage with current questions facing the profession.
There is no charge to attend, but advance registration is required.
