This half-day masterclass offers a focused and practical exploration of how unquoted shares and private businesses are valued for UK tax purposes. Designed for professionals working in or advising on fiscal matters, the session brings together technical rigour, applied methodology, and strategic insight.


Participants will gain clarity on valuation approaches accepted in the UK tax environment, understand where valuation for tax diverges from commercial practice, and learn how to manage complexity and engagement risk when advising clients or submitting work to HMRC.

  6. Commercial vs. Fiscal Valuations: Clarifying the structural and methodological differences between tax-driven and commercial valuations.

Tutors:


Graham Antrobus is an internationally recognised valuation expert with a comprehensive background spanning fiscal, commercial, and financial reporting assignments. He holds an exceptional range of professional accreditations, including FCA, CTA, CBV, ASA, ABV, BVIUK, CVA, and ICVS.

His expertise lies in the valuation of early-stage companies and intangible assets across diverse sectors, with significant experience in complex tax-driven cases, goodwill assessments, IFRS compliance, and high-stakes dispute resolution. He has provided expert input in matters reaching tribunals and arbitration.


As Director of Education Development at the Business Valuation Institute UK, Graham has played a central role in shaping the organisation’s educational strategy and designing the structure of its flagship accreditation programme. In June 2025, he was elected President of the ASA’s International Chapter, further reinforcing his global standing in the profession.


Respected for both his technical authority and clarity of teaching, Graham remains committed to advancing the profession through education, thought leadership, and global collaboration.


Ed Tahsin is a Principal at Hillier Hopkins LLP and Head of the firm’s Shares and Business Valuation Department. He specialises in the valuation of businesses and shares for tax, employee share schemes, financial reporting purposes, and complex capital structures. Ed is qualified with the Business Valuation Institute UK and serves as a member of its Future of Business Valuation Board, helping to shape best practice across the valuation profession.
